Swimming Pool Pumps and Chemicals: Prices and How to Keep Pool Water Clear
Pictured: 0.75 kW swimming pool pump (left) and pool chlorine (right).
Quick answer: A pool needs a pump and filter to circulate water and chemicals to keep it safe: chlorine to disinfect, and pH plus or pH minus to keep the pH in range. Our pool pumps cost KSh 36,000 to KSh 57,600. Test the water regularly: commonly recommended levels are pH 7.2–7.6 and free chlorine about 1–3 ppm.
Key facts
  • Pump + filter circulate and clean the water
  • Chlorine disinfects; pH plus/minus balance it
  • Common targets: pH 7.2–7.6, free chlorine about 1–3 ppm
  • Follow each chemical's label for the dose

Swimming Pool Pump Prices

What Size Pool Pump Do I Need?

The pump should circulate (turn over) the whole pool volume within the daily running time, and match the filter's flow rating. Pool volume in litres = length × width × average depth (in metres) × 1,000. Tell us the pool size and filter, and we will recommend a pump.

How Many Hours Should a Pool Pump Run?

Long enough to turn the water over at least once a day. Many home pools run the pump for several hours daily, more in hot weather and heavy use. A variable-speed pump can run longer at low speed and use less power.

Swimming Pool Chemicals

Current listed prices incl. VAT (updated 1 October 2026).

ChemicalWhat it does
Chlorine (65 or 90)Disinfects the water and kills algae. The number is the strength (available chlorine)
pH plus / pH minusRaises or lowers pH so chlorine works well and the water is comfortable
StabiliserProtects chlorine from being broken down by sunlight
Test kitMeasures chlorine and pH so you dose correctly

How Much Chlorine for My Pool?

It depends on the pool volume, the product's strength, sunlight and how many swimmers use it. Work out your pool volume, follow the dosing instructions on the product, then test and adjust. Never mix different chemicals together, and add chemicals to water, not water to chemicals.

Does Chlorine Affect Pool pH?

Yes: different chlorine products push pH up or down a little. That is why pH is tested and corrected regularly with pH plus or pH minus.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a swimming pool pump in Kenya?

Our pool pumps cost KSh 36,000 to KSh 57,600.

How many hours should a pool pump run?

Long enough to turn the whole pool volume over at least once a day; often several hours daily, more in hot weather.

What pH should a swimming pool be?

A commonly recommended range is pH 7.2 to 7.6.

How much chlorine should be in a pool?

Free chlorine of about 1–3 ppm is commonly recommended; follow the product label and test regularly.

Does the pool pump always have to be on?

No. Run it long enough each day to circulate and filter the whole pool volume.
