How regeneration works
- The control valve backwashes the resin vessel.
- It draws brine from the brine tank through the resin, replacing hardness with sodium.
- It rinses the resin and refills the brine tank with water ready for next time.
Which size?
Match the brine tank to the softener size and how often it regenerates: bigger softeners and harder water use more salt per week. Round and square 60–80 litre tanks suit most small and medium softeners; large conic tanks suit big industrial units.

Upkeep checklist
- Weekly: check salt level and top up.
- Every few months: look for a hard crust ("salt bridge") and break it up.
- Yearly: empty, clean out sludge and check the float.
