Electric Motor Prices in Kenya and How to Choose HP and Speed
Pictured: 3 HP high-speed (left) and 10 HP low-speed (right) electric motors.
Quick answer: Our electric motors cost KSh 21,000 (2 HP, high speed) to KSh 45,000 (10 HP, low speed). Choose the power (HP or kW) the machine needs, the speed it must run at, and the supply you have (single or three phase). 1 HP is about 0.75 kW.
Key facts
  • 1 HP ≈ 0.75 kW
  • High speed: fans, pumps, grinders; low speed: more torque for heavy loads
  • Match the supply: single phase or three phase
  • Size for the machine's load plus a margin

Check each motor's voltage, phase, speed (RPM) and frame on the product page before ordering.

High Speed vs Low Speed Motor

A high-speed motor (often about 2,800–2,900 RPM on 50 Hz supply) suits pumps, fans, blowers and grinders. A low-speed motor (often about 1,400–1,450 RPM or slower) gives more torque at the shaft for the same power and suits heavy loads like mixers, mills and conveyors, or drives through belts and gearboxes.

HP to kW

HPkW (approx.)
2 HP1.5 kW
3 HP2.2 kW
7.5 HP5.5 kW
10 HP7.5 kW

Difference Between 2 HP and 3 HP Motors

A 3 HP motor delivers about 50% more power than a 2 HP motor, so it can drive a bigger pump or a heavier machine, and it draws more current. Do not oversize too much: a motor running far below its rating wastes energy.

Single Phase or Three Phase?

Homes and small shops usually have single-phase power; workshops and factories often have three-phase. Larger motors are commonly three-phase. Check your supply with an electrician before buying, and always use the correct starter and protection.

How to Size a Motor

  1. Find the power the machine needs (from its manual or the old motor's nameplate).
  2. Match the speed and the shaft size and mounting (frame).
  3. Add a sensible margin for starting and heavy loads.
  4. Send us the old motor's nameplate photo and we will match it.

Frequently asked questions

How much is an electric motor in Kenya?

Our electric motors cost KSh 21,000 (2 HP) to KSh 45,000 (10 HP).

How much is a 3 HP motor in Kenya?

Our 3 HP high-speed motor is KSh 24,000.

What is the difference between high speed and low speed motors?

High-speed motors suit pumps and fans; low-speed motors give more torque for heavy loads such as mixers and mills.

How many kW is 2 HP?

About 1.5 kW (1 HP ≈ 0.75 kW).

Can I run a three-phase motor on single-phase power?

Not directly; use a motor that matches your supply, or ask an electrician about a suitable converter or drive.
