Quick answer: Sealed bottled water from a certified producer keeps for the period printed on the label. Once opened, or for refilled 20 L bottles, aim to drink it within a few days to two weeks, kept closed, cool and out of the sun. Purified water has no chlorine left to protect it, so clean containers and good storage matter more than time.

Why Purified Water Can Go Bad

RO and UV remove germs but leave no disinfectant behind. Bacteria from dirty hands, taps or bottles can grow, especially in warm places. That is why refill shops sanitise bottles and disinfect stored water.

Why does stored water smell?

Usually bacteria or algae from a dirty container or sunlight; clean and sanitise the container.
