What Is Alkaline Water?
Pure water has a pH of 7. Alkaline water has a higher pH, usually 8–9.5, from dissolved minerals (calcium, magnesium) or from an electric ioniser. Drinking water guidelines generally sit around pH 6.5–8.5.
Do the Health Claims Hold Up?
Your stomach is strongly acidic and your body controls blood pH tightly, whatever you drink. Claims that alkaline water cures disease, burns fat or "detoxes" are not backed by strong evidence. Some people simply like the taste of mineral-rich water, which is a fair reason to buy it.
