Packaging Machine Output Calculator
Pictured: automatic linear liquid filling machine.
Quick answer: Packs per hour = 3,600 ÷ seconds per cycle × packs per cycle × efficiency. Efficiency allows for refilling the hopper, changing rolls, breaks and small stops; 70–85% is a common planning range (a rule of thumb you can change). Multiply by hours and days for daily and monthly output, then compare with what you can actually sell.
Key facts
  • Packs/hour = 3,600 ÷ cycle seconds × heads × efficiency
  • Efficiency covers stops, refills and breaks
  • Match output to sales, not the other way round
  • The slowest machine sets line speed

Find Your Cycle Time

Time ten fills, seals or packs with a stopwatch and divide by ten. For a manual filler the operator sets the pace; automatic machines list speed in packs per minute (cycle seconds = 60 ÷ packs per minute).

The Slowest Machine Sets the Speed

On a line (fill → cap or seal → label → code) output is limited by the slowest step. Upgrade that step first. See liquid filling machines, labelling and coding.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the output of a packaging machine?

3,600 ÷ seconds per cycle × packs per cycle × efficiency gives packs per hour.

What efficiency should I use for a packing line?

Planners often use 70–85% to allow for stops, refills and breaks; use your own measured figure if you have it.

How many bottles per hour does a manual filler do?

It depends on the operator and bottle size; time ten fills and use the calculator.

Which machine limits a packing line?

The slowest step, often labelling or capping.
