Sachet and Pouch Packing Machines: How They Work and Which to Choose
Pictured: multi-lane liquid sachet machine (left) and a powder pouch packing machine (right).
Quick answer: A sachet or pouch packing machine forms a pouch from a roll of film, fills it with a measured amount of liquid, paste or powder, and seals it, in one continuous process (form-fill-seal, FFS). Our machines range from KSh 2,200,000 to KSh 3,480,000.
Key facts
  • FFS = form, fill and seal from a roll of film
  • Liquid/paste machines and powder machines are different
  • Multi-lane machines make several sachets at once
  • Food and water products need KEBS certification

What Is a Pouch Packing (FFS) Machine?

"FFS" means form-fill-seal. A vertical FFS (VFFS) machine pulls film from a roll over a forming tube, seals the back and bottom to make a pouch, doses the product in, seals the top and cuts the sachet off.

How Does a Pouch Packing Machine Work?

  1. Film unwinds from the roll; the printed design lines up using a sensor.
  2. The film is formed into a tube and sealed down the back.
  3. A doser fills the measured amount (a pump for liquids, an auger or cups for powders).
  4. The top is sealed, the batch code printed, and the sachet cut off.
