How to Start a Body Lotion, Hair Food or Cosmetics Business in Kenya
Pictured: Pneumatic liquid filler and Manual Labelling Machine.
Quick answer: Start with one or two products, a tested formula and a clean production room. Fill creams and lotions with a piston paste filler (manual from KSh 95,000 or pneumatic from KSh 350,000 on H-TECH’s listings), seal, label with full ingredients and batch numbers, and meet KEBS standards for cosmetics before selling in shops. Build sales through salons, beauty shops and online before supermarkets.

Costing and Pricing

Cost per unit = raw materials + container, cap and label + labour + power + overheads. Use the cost per bottle calculator, then price for the outlet: salon packs, retail packs and bulk for hotels.
